SINP 1st Qtr. Assessment held
SINP-Brgy. Tenani, Paranas, Samar--- The Samar Island Natural Park (SINP) now on its Phase II of Project SIBP Project Implementation recently conducted (April 7, 2010) its 1st Quarter Assessment and staff meeting at SINP Training Hall, at Campo Uno Brgy. Tenani, Paranas, Samar.
Having attended by 27 participants from SINP and ERDS –in Region 8 Tacloban City, the activity was started with an invocation led by For. Ernesto Duran, SINP Chief (Admin & Finance) followed with the singing of the Philippine National Anthem.
ABS-CBN to grace the DOT/SIBP promotion of ULOT WATERSHED Ecotourism loopBrgy. Tenani, Paranas, Samar --- The Ulot Watershed Ecotourism Loop was recently made possible through the joint effort of the Department of Tourism (DOT) Region 8 and SIBP/SINP. It was carried out as an outcome/impact of the strong partnership of the SIBP/SINP and DOT to develop more ecotourism products in Samar as alternative options to help address the perennial issue of upland poverty and biodiversity degradation.
Specifically, the said activity is being anchored on the following objectives, that of a) providing promotional mileage to Ulot Watershed Ecotourism Loop via exposure through The Filipino Channel (TFC) of the ABS-CBN International Channel Company; and b) to improve kayaking and river guiding skills of the selected local tour guides utilizing the local natural resources of Ulot River.
NAVA-PCMU-KCIQ-J4FHSIBP-DENR, PAMB cross visit to boost ecotourism development in Samar IslandPARANAS, Samar – Members of the Samar Island Natural Park – Protected Area Management Board (SINP-PAMB) and officials of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources in Eastern Visayas (DENR-8) who recently visited one of the country’s most unique and successful Protected Area (PA) site admitted they have gained valuable lessons and experiences especially in planning, implementation and management of protected area that can be replicated in Samar Island.
MOA on sustainable management of Las Navas ecotourism sites inkedPARANAS, SAMAR – A Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) has been recently signed between the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and the Local Government of Las Navas in the province of Northern Samar to jointly develop and manage the Pinipisakan Falls and Ginagatusan Caves, both located in the vicinity of Barangay San Isidro of said town, as an ecotourism destination.

Samar Island Natural Park (SINP)The Samar Island Natural Park (SINP) is a Protected Area (PA) established by virtue of Presidential Proclamation 442 by President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo on April 13, 2003. SINP covers 333.000 hectares of forests and an additional 125,400 hectares of buffer zone encompassing 36 municipalities and 1 city. SINP seeks to conserve biodiversity in Samar Island, providing sustained ecological services and opportunities for equitable and sustainable development and avenues for stakeholder participation and empowerment on its management. SINP is being managed by a Protected Area Management Board (PAMB) - a multisectoral body composed of representatives of LGUs, NGAs, POs, NGOs and the DENR responsible for policy formulation and general administration of the Protected Area. PAMB policies and programs are carried out by the Protected Area Superintendent’s Office which is headed by a Protected Area Superintendent (PASu). These management programs respond to issues and concerns pertaining to biophysical environment, socio-economic and cultural condition and institutional and management arrangements of SINP. SIBP brings in new attractions in Samar Island’s longest riverPARANAS, Samar – The Samar Island Biodiversity Project (SIBP), a foreign-funded project being implemented by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) recently introduced another natural attraction potential for recreation and ecotourism in this municipality.
SINP Launches Official Website TodayAFTER months of preparations, the new and improved official website of the Samar Island Natural Park (SINP) is launched today. This updated and upgraded site is the result of analysis, design, and programming. This SINP website, www.samarislandnaturalpark.org.ph, presents the importance and value of the island’s rich resources, its history, culture and the people living in it.
